Rodgers Names Additional Senior Staff to the Energy and Commerce Committee

Washington, DC – Energy and Commerce Committee Republican Leader Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R-WA) today announced additional senior staff for the Committee. “As the oldest committee in the U.S. House of Representatives, the Energy and Commerce Committee has long addressed some of the most pressing issues our country faces, and it will play a critical role in our mission to restore, rebuild, and renew the American Dream. I am thrilled to announce additional members of my senior staff. These individuals bring invaluable expertise to the team and are uniquely qualified to support our mission. Their expertise and commitment to service will help secure America’s global leadership in innovation, health care, and energy to ensure we win the future.” On the House Energy and Commerce Committee, the following staff will serve under Republican Staff Director Nate Hodson, in addition to the senior staff that were announced in December. Kate O’Connor - Chief Counsel, Communications and Technology Subcommittee Kate O’Connor will continue to serve as Chief Counsel of the Subcommittee on Communications and Technology, where she began in 2019 and led efforts on spectrum policy and advancing broadband to rural America. She previously served as Chief of Staff and Deputy Director of Congressional and Intergovernmental Affairs for the National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA). Prior to NTIA, O’Connor served as an aide on Capitol Hill to Senators Mark Kirk (R-IL) and Dan Sullivan (R-AK). Tim Kurth – Chief Counsel, Consumer Protection and Commerce Subcommittee Tim Kurth will continue to serve as Chief Counsel for the Consumer Protection and Commerce Subcommittee leading our efforts on privacy, fraud prevention, Internet platform transparency, autonomous vehicles, artificial intelligence, and other emerging technologies. He joined the Energy and Commerce Committee in June of 2017 as Senior Professional Staff for the Subcommittee on Communications and Technology, and then served as its Deputy Chief Counsel and acting Chief Counsel. Kurth began his career in Washington with the U.S. Department of State and is a House leadership veteran having served as Assistant to the Speaker for Policy for Speaker J. Dennis Hastert on technology, telecommunications, and financial services issues. From the Speaker’s office, he went on to a career in the private sector before returning to Capitol Hill. Mary Martin – Chief Counsel, Energy Subcommittee and Environment and Climate Change Subcommittee Mary Martin will continue to serve as Chief Counsel for the Energy Subcommittee and the Environment and Climate Change Subcommittee where she’s led since 2017. She has led in developing and implementing policy initiatives on key energy and environment issues. Prior to joining the Committee, Martin worked for the U.S. Chamber of Commerce as the Energy, Clean Air and Natural Resources Policy Counsel and Committee Executive. She also previously practiced law at Steptoe & Johnson LLP in Washington, D.C., litigating complex commercial disputes. Grace Graham - Chief Counsel, Health Subcommittee Grace Graham is joining as Chief Counsel of the Health Subcommittee. She will be Republican Leader Rodgers’s chief advisor on health policy. Graham joins Energy and Commerce after almost 10 years working for the Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions (HELP) Committee, most recently as Health Policy Director for Chairman Lamar Alexander (R-TN), where she led efforts to end surprise medical billing, combat the opioid crisis, and negotiate 21st Century Cures.
